Gothic PC Creation & Development
Hi, my name is p3t0$ and i'm a "Power-Player", a particular type of player that tries to build the most powerful PC in all the RPGs he plays, using EVERY possible item in the game that can help him to achieve his goal and make his PC a perfect war-machine and, at the same time, doing all the possible quests, in such a way to not lose anything of the story, even if that means to work harder than "normal" RPG players (i'm sure some of you know what i'm talking about...); since Gothic, unlike many other RPGs, has no real classes, leaving to the player a lot of freedom in the development of the character (like Fallout, a game i really love, even more than Gothic!), it's very important to know how to use the skill points BEFORE starting to play.
I've told you i'm a power-player, so i need to know how many boosting potions/items are in the game and which their effects are, in order to take the best out of my PC and adapt my playing style to it: it would be very useful to make a list with ALL the items or "teachers" (like the Horatio's +5 strength bonus, for example) in the game that can permanently increase the PC stats.
I'd like to create a warrior/mage able to use ranged weapons too, but i'm uncertain to choose whether bows or crossbows: bows are superior in number of types (19, if i remember well), more widely spread (easier to find), less expensive and faster than crossbows but they deal less damage (the most powerful bow is the Bow of Death - 88 damage 50 dexterity required) although they require less dexterity points to be used, while crossbows deal more damage but are slower and require more dexterity points to be used.
Since i will specialize my character in Close Combat and Magic, using for the dexterity/ranged weapons only the skill points that will be left over (and maybe some permanent dexterity boosting potions), do you think it's better to train in the use of bows, so being able to use effectively ranged weapons from the beginning and compensate the less damage bows do raising up the dexterity or maybe it's better to master the crossbow skills, even if that means having a weaker PC in the early-medium stages of the game?
You'll notice i'm more oriented to the use of bows, because i think they're more handy than crossbows and it takes much less time to get a decent bow and to become a master in its use (anyway, i think that would have been far better to include Bows and Crossbows in a single category than to split them in two: Maces, Axes and Swords differ much more the one from the other than Bows and Crossbows, don't you think?).
These are my PC development stats, please have a look at them and tell me if there is the possibility to improve them (or i'm making something wrong; please note that the numbers i'm writing near the attributes are the skill points i need, not the total sum i want to reach):

[ATTRIBUTES] (217)

Strength - 85 (initial 10 str, Horatio training +5, 1st Old Camp potion +3, 2nd Old Camp potion +3)
Dexterity - 37 (initial 10 dex, Fisk potion +3)
Mana - 95 (initial 5 mana, Torrez potion +5, Swampweed "Dreamcall" +2, Cor Kalom potion +?)

[MAGIC] (140)

1st Circle - 10
2nd Circle - 15
3rd Circle - 20
4th Circle - 25
5th Circle - 30
6th Circle - 40

[FIGHTING SKILLS] (130)

1-Handed Weapons:
1st Level - 10
2nd Level - 20

2-Handed Weapons:
1st Level - 30
2nd Level - 40

Bows:
1st Level - 10
2nd Level - 20

[SPECIAL ABILITIES] (10)

Acrobatics:
1st Level - 10

[HUNTING SKILLS] (4)

Skin Reptiles - 1
Take Furs - 1
Take Teeth - 1
Take Claws - 1
Take Bloodfly Stingers - Free (read the book about Bloodflies)
Take Horns/Tongues/Troll Hides/Swampshark Teeth - Free
Take Minecrawler Mandibles - Free
Take Minecrawler Shells - Free

So, to sum up, these are my questions, in order of importance:

1 - Which are ALL the boosting potions/items that i can find in Gothic, especially the ones in Chapter 6 that can be looted from the mummies and how much the Cor Kalom reward potion adds to strength (or dexterity or mana, i don't know, i haven't seen it yet)?

2 - Is there any level/skill points limit in Gothic? I heard it's 50 levels/500 skill points: is that right?

3 - When playing as a Warrior/Mage, is it better to train in Bows or Crossbows? Which skill do you find more useful?

4 - After looking at my PC development stats, could you tell me your opinions/tips about them? Is there any room for improvement or is everything ok?

5 - If you look closely, you'll notice that my stats exceed the 500 skill points limit (217+140+130+10+4=501), so i need at last 1 point to be added to dexterity (possibly without using rings or amulets) in order to use the Bow of Death: how can i do that?

6 - Is there a way to know EXACTLY how much damage i do with my weapons (for example, Actual Strength OR Dexterity + Weapon Damage - Enemy Resistance = EXACT DAMAGE)?

7 - There's no way to obtain the Wave of Death spell and keeping the Uriziel Sword at the same time (without losing its powers)?

8 - There's really NO way to keep the boosted Uriziel?

9 - Really, can't i keep Uriziel? ;-)

10 - Is it possible to get the Innos Rage Sword, the best 2handed weapon after the recharged Uriziel, only by killing Gomez?

That's all, i thank you all in advance for your tips/answers.
If someone would like to reply me in private my e-mail is p3t0s@yahoo.it.
See you!

1) there are lists about all those extras, but I don't know if there's a complete one. Maybe someone else can post a link.

2) theoretical there is no limit. you can gain unlimited XP for example in the temple of the sleeper by pulling the switches in wrong combinations. or you can just go on and kill the creatures you've just summoned, but practical 50 is a limit ;)

3) I prefer crossbows, more damage for less dexterity. the downside is, that you aren't able to learn the skill before 4th chapter, if you don't join old camp… but there’s a way of learning it as a mage in the Old Camp, it may or may not be considered cheating ;)

Spoiler! (zum lesen Text markieren)

tell them to join the circle of fire but don’t attend the “swear”, instead join the fighters now and learn the crossbow-skill. then, after finishing your training, you can still join the circle of fire…

4)
- hunting skills are for money only, as an experienced player you wont have problems with money. so you could save these (few) skill points. (the quest items like a trolls fur can be acquired without the skill)
- as a mage I would train strength only up to 65 to use scar's sword and save the skill points for strength and for two-handed weapons.

5) see #4

6) a normal hit deals exactly the damage of the weapon. when you make a critical hit your strength(melee weapons) or dexterity(missile weapons) will be added. if the damage does not exceed the certain resistance of the creature no damage will be dealt.

7, 8, 9) no, no, no ;) (not without cheating;))

10) yes

and one note to Uriziel: unlike to all other weapons Uriziel only deals the stated damage. a critical hit makes no difference (no strength will be added). so the charged Uriziel is not always the weapon of choice for the fighter ;) (but the weapon is crucial for a fighter if you encounter a enemy who can only be hurt by magical damage)
