Hallo, entschuldigen wenn meinen Deutsch nicht so gut ist (ich bin Hollander) :)
Ich habe ein frage: Kommt Gothic auch in die Anglische sprache oder nur in Deutsch?

Vielen dank,
Nick.

p.s. Just in case my German wasn't too clear: Will Gothic be released in the English language too or will it stay a German language game? And by the way, this game looks VERY GOOD!! I am playing the German demo now and this is what Ultima 9 Ascension should have been. Can't wait untill it comes out :-)

THX

at the moment there is only an german version, because for the english version theres no publisher. It will take time until there´s an english version. But PBs are working very hard on the transalation into english

You probably don't want an English version
Nick,
This game sucks on the technical level. It is so full of bugs (programming errors such as bad memory management as well as design errors which make it impossible to finish the plot) that any foreign publisher is well advised not to touch it. You will not find any PC configuration on which it will run error free except the one they tested it on (they have 1 (one!) person responsible for quality assurance!). And they tend to blame their inability to do grafik programming on the grafik card manufacturers although there are dozens of games which do well on all these cards.
The merits of this game are it's ingenious plot and it's dense atmospere. An important part of this is their choice of voices and the language itself. I am not sure at all that will be ported properly to another language.
So if you have a high frustration tolerance and are somewhat fluent in German, try the worst implemented game of the last few years with the best story of the last few years in its original language.

I wouldn't say that the situation is as bad as rhs states. Surely, the game crashes at least once per session but that doesn't matter *if* you save on a regular base. Even if there are bugs in nearly every part of the game you will have lots of fun playing it. This game has one of the best atmospheres ever created by a German team and it beats most of the games created by teams from other countries. Converting the game into an English version should not be so difficult but there's one big mistake they could make during the process: Hiring the wrong persons to lend their voices to the game's characters - that would destroy the atmosphere of the game.
If there'll ever be an English version of Gothic I'll surely buy it! It's the best game I've ever played.

Also in the English Version many Bugs will be fixed because of they can spend more time on Bugfixing. :)

@Nick Amsterdam:
Gothic is the best RPG ever and I had only two or three Bugs. :D :)

@rhs:

uh - I do not know on which system mr. rhs had such a bad experience with gothic, but on my system the game did run just fine. And it did not crash at least once per session!

As I understand it, Gothic has quite some problems with ATI graphic cards, but these might be adressed in a patch to be released very soon now. There is also a problem with the XP reward for mages (which made me stop and wait for the patch after about one half of the game) and with the way certain events are toggled. Both bugs are known by PB - and will most likely be addressed by the forthcoming patch. It surely is best to wait until the patch is released before judging this game!

I heard that an english language version is planned - but do not know the estimate release date. It will, of course, incorporate all fixes done by the patches released here - and as far as the localization and rhs's assumptions are concerned: there really is NO WAY to say how good it will be done without having seen a single bit of it.

Vielen dank fur deine...uuhm...antworten?
Hehe, I'll just stick to English because my written German isn't all that good :)
Thank you for all your answers and input. I can tell everyone here really likes this game alot and feels that with the latest patch alot of bugs are gone.
I will wait for the English language version to come out (if it ever does...) and will definatly buy it then.

By the way, I got the demo from a cd-rom that came with a Dutch gaming magazine I bought. It had a 2 page article about Gothic and they spoke very positive about it.
Just so you know that it DOES have the attention of at least one Dutch gaming magazine :-)

Have fun with Gothic and thanks again for your all your input!

Nick.

Hi,

I've also played the demo AND I'm also very enthusiastic about that game!! It's on my must-have-gameslist for sure. There were no crashes at all during my demo-playtime!!
The German Game-developers are in good form ; I've recently buyed "DESPERADOS Wanted Dead or Alive" from Spellbound. Also a very good entertaining title. I've heard "Gothic" will be presented at the E3. I suppose we will know more about an International releasedate by then! Until then I'll follow the forum here to know all about the game.

Regards,

Belgian Bourrie

BTW You were talking about the Belgian magazine PC-GAMEPLAY (May) weren't you Nick!!

OOPS! You're right, it's a Belgian gamemagazine ofcourse. My mistake, sorry about that :D
Anyway, it's nice to see yet another person who would like to have an English version.
And I didn't know Gothic might be on the E3 this year. That would be so cool.
This game deserves to get more attention worldwide, just wait untill all those dissapointed Ultima 9 fans find out about it. They will eat it up :r

Nick.
